GETTING COSMETIC SURGERY IS FOR ADULTS, TEENS SHOULD JUST SAY NO

Just as drinking and driving don’t go together, neither do teenagers and plastic surgery. With few exceptions, teenagers should be dissuaded from pursuing surgical cosmetic enhancements. Teens lack the maturity and fully formed sense of identity required to make decisions that will affect their appearance forever. Moreover, they are simply too young to have a Beverly Hills facelift. One famous 16-year-old seems to be on her way down that path. Nicole Fabian-Weber, correspondent for The Stir online magazine, writes about Kylie Jenner’s overnight shift in appearance that could influence others her age to do the same.

Growing up in a famous family

Kylie Jenner is the youngest of six siblings of the Kardashian family, whose reality show is currently topping the ratings. Being in the spotlight practically all her life can take a toll on a young girl like Kylie, who seems to be suffering from an identity crisis as a result.

RECENTLY, THE KEEPING UP WITH THE KARDASHIANS STAR POSTED TWO BACK-TO-BACK PHOTOS: ONE OF ANGELINA JOLIE IN HER YOUNGER DAYS, ALONG WITH THE CAPTION, “EVERYTHING”; AND ANOTHER OF HERSELF, LOOKING, WELL, KINDA SIMILAR TO JOLIE … IT’S DIFFICULT NOT TO GET THE STRANGE FEELING THAT KYLIE, WHO … HAS ALTERED HER APPEARANCE RECENTLY, MAY BE TRYING TO LOOK LIKE SOMEONE ELSE.

The deed is done

Judging from the photos posted in social media, it doesn’t take an experienced plastic surgeon to see that Kylie had her lips augmented in an obvious attempt to mimic Angelina Jolie. This has everyone holding their breaths in anticipation of her next procedure.

Will it be a brow lift, or an eyelid surgery? Will it be rhinoplasty, or injectibles? Laser resurfacing? It’s anyone’s guess. All these services can be provided by recognized facial plastic and reconstructive surgery practices such as that of Dr. Davis B. Nguyen, MD—but for adults primarily.

Optimistic at best

Webber sums up the public opinion spot-on when she points out that Kylie is already pretty and, for now, does not need a Beverly Hills face lift. Everyone is hoping that this is just a phase she’s going through, which she should outgrow in a couple of years.

HOPEFULLY, KYLIE ISN’T TRYING TO BECOME A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PERSON. OUR TEENS ARE CERTAINLY A TIME TO EXPERIMENT WITH OUR APPEARANCES, BUT KYLIE SHOULDN’T WANT TO BECOME SOMEONE ELSE. SHE LOOKS GREAT AS IS. AND LET’S ALSO HOPE THAT IF SHE “HAS HAD PLASTIC SURGERY,” SHE STOPS NOW.

Amen to that. There’s nothing wrong with having a face lift, but it should be done at the right time, at the right age, and for the right reasons.
